The Bookshelf Conversation #155: Alison Fairbrother

October 24, 2022

I’ve said it time and again here: I am not a huge fan of posting about baseball fiction. I just feel unqualified to opine on the details since I lack the educational background to parse about it with any degree of confidence or even intelligence.

That said, when I learned about the topic of The Catch: A Novel by Alison Fairbrother, I was hooked. The story focuses on the relationship between a father and his adult daughter who have bonded over the years through baseball. When he dies suddenly, her world is turned upside down as she tries to deal with the loss. I can relate to some extent, being the father of an adult daughter with that baseball bonding. It certainly has got me thinking about what I want to leave behind.

The Conversation is a bit different this time around. It is less about the story, however, than the crafting of the story. Hope you enjoy it.
